Ist das der Realismus? Das noch nicht Erreichte in die Wirklichkeit zu holen, das noch nicht Verwirklichte ans Licht zu ziehen? Ohne Erwartung, einen Schlussstein setzen zu dürfen, ohne den Gedanken an eine Belohnung. Der Sisyphos, den man sich ja als glücklichen Menschen vorzustellen hat (Camus), er musste den Felsen hinaufwälzen - ich dagegen habe das Gefühl, an etwas zerren zu müssen. Es ist jedenfalls nicht der immer gleiche Felsbrocken, mit dem ich es zu tun habe; ich weiß nicht einmal, was es ist, das ich zu befördern habe und ob es sich nicht verändert. Nicht einmal der Auftrag ist klar. Wenn derjenige ein Sisyphos ist, der beständig versucht, an Sinn zu gelangen und doch immer neu feststellen muss, dass sein logisches Gebäude zusammenfällt, wer bin dann ich, dem es nicht um Bedeutung sondern allein um die Wahrnehmung geht? Finde ich mich dann unter den Danaiden wieder, die erst gar nichts sammeln konnten?

Das ist der Realismus, den ich meine: Alles nach seinen Grenzen zu beurteilen. Es gibt Grenzen der Fähigkeiten, Grenzen des Verstandes, Grenzen der Emotion und so weiter. Alles innerhalb dieser Vielzahl von Beschränkungen liegende ist Gegenstand meines Realismus. Dazu zählen die Beobachtung der Effekte, welche die Gedanken an Metaphysisches im Menschen erzeugen, aber auch die Vergegenwärtigung von Kommendem, die Erinnerung an Vergangenes und die Vorstellung von Nicht-Seiendem. Es wäre ein Irrtum zu glauben, dass ein realistisches Verhältnis zu diesen Dingen selbst möglich wäre, da es überhaupt unmöglich ist, zu ihnen vorzudringen. Wirklich realistisch ist immer nur das Verhältnis zur Grenze, sofern es überhaupt erst bewusst wird.

Is this realism? To bring the not-yet-reached into reality and to pull the not-yet-realized into light? Without the hope to ever place a keystone, without the thought of any gratification. Sisyphus who should be imagined as a happy human being (Camus) had to roll the rock up the hill - to me it seems like I have to pull something. In any case it is not the unchangeable rock I have to deal with; I do not even know what it is I have to handle and if it is not changing. Not even the mission is obvious. If he who always tries to come to a meaning and always has to realize that his logic construction collapses is a Sisyphus, who am I not being interested in meaning but perception? Will I find myself more likely among the Danaides who were not even able to collect anything?

That is the realism I think of: to judge anything according to its limitations. There are limitations of abilities, limitations of understanding, limitations of emotions and so on. Everything that lies inside these many limits is part of my realism. This is the observation of the effects that metaphysical thoughts produce in a person but also the visualization of coming events, the memory of past and the imagination of the absent. To believe that a realistic relation to these things themselves were possible would be a mistake because it is impossible to even reach them. Only the relation to the limitation can be truly realistic, if it becomes conscious.
